Quebec_cityKnown as the capital and the second most populous city in the province of Quebec in Canada, Quebec City was founded by Samuel de Champlain in 1608. Due to the narrowing of the Saint Lawrence River, Cape Diamond and the city of Lévis, the city name was said to be derived from the Alginquin term Kébec meaning ‘where the river narrows”. While the city was affectionately known as the “La Vieille Capitale”, its motto however is “Don de Dieu feray valoir” which when translated into the English language as “I shall put God’s gift to good use”.

Career opportunities in the city is mainly focused in the provincial government which employ an estimated 27, 900 individuals in 2007. University teaching hospitals are also among the biggest employers of the city. Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec (CHUQ) network employs over 10,000 people in 2007. Financial sectors can’t also take for granted as they also use large work labourers.

Moreover, sectors of manufacturing, tourism, transportation, commerce services, defence and public administration are industries that provide lines of work for Quebec City’s population. Among the companies popular in these industries are Beenox, Frima Studio, Cossette, EXFO, Desjardins Group and Institut National d’Optique (INO).
