charlottetown_pvz5nuConsidered as the largest and the capital city of the province of Prince Edward Island in Canada, Charlottetown is the district seat of Queens County. While it was established as a town in 1855, it was however hailed as a city in 1885. Its motto is “Cunabula Foederis” Latin phrase for “Birthplace of Confederation” as the 1864 Charlottetown Conference was held in the region. Moreover, the city name was given in commemoration to Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz of the United Kingdom.

Famous landmarks in the city include the Charlottetown City Hall founded in the 1880s; Founder’s Hall Museum, Peakes Quay in the City harbour, the historical district of Prince Street, Charlottetown marina, and the Beaconsfield House constructed in 1877 but now houses the city’s historical museum. Province House should also never be missed as it is that second oldest legislature building in the city.
