Named after the prominent Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, the city of Victoria is situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. It is considered as one of the oldest cities of the Pacific Northwest with popular landmarks including the Empress Hotel, The British Columbia Parliament Buildings and it’s Chinatown known to be the second oldest after San Francisco’s. While it is named as “The Garden City” because of its exceptional beauty, it is also considered as the “City of Newly Weds and Nearly Deads” as it became a popular destination for wedding honeymoons and retirement getaways.
As the metropolitan is one of the favourite tourist destinations around the world, Victoria’s tourism industry generates many job opportunities for its populations. Aside from its night clubs, theatres, restaurants and pubs that have greater need for human resources, cruise ships and other attractions are also the local’s line of work. Moreover, technological industries have also been the biggest employers. With its 800 companies, they employ at least 13,000 hired workers. Universities such as the Camosun College also employ an estimated 33,000 individuals for their faculty and other staffs. Other industries that have yielded the same are the Canadian Forces, investment and banking enterprise and food products manufacturing.
